Qualifications for Membership
In order to become a member of the Stadium High School Band, each student should have some experience on his/her instrument. Each student will audition to determine what group the student should enter. Recommendation of the student’s director may be accepted instead of auditions.
Groups
Concert Band – The top performing group involving advanced instrumental students. This class is for the most advanced and interested students. Extra rehearsals, individual practice, numerous performances, private lessons, and various trips are required. Membership is by audition only and balanced instrumentation is a factor in membership selection. All Concert Band members are required to participate in Pep Band unless they are involved in the corresponding sports activity the Pep Band is performing for. Concert Band members must purchase an ASB card!
Symphonic Band – A performing group involving some extra practices and performances. Emphasis is on training the individual students for advanced performance techniques. Individual practice, extra rehearsals, numerous performances, and various trips are required. Members are given the same opportunities as Concert Band members, including required participation in the Pep Band and the opportunity to audition for district bands and honor ensembles. Symphonic Band members must purchase an ASB card!
Cadet Band – A performing group for all incoming ninth graders. This class is split into two periods, so many before and after school rehearsals are required to prepare the group for concerts. Individual practice, extra rehearsals, numerous performances, and various trips are required. Members are given the same opportunities as Concert Band members, including required participation in the Pep Band and the opportunity to audition for district bands and honor ensembles. Cadet Band members must purchase an ASB card!
Zero Hour Jazz Band A – A small audition only ensemble designed to learn and perform in the jazz idiom. Many public performances should be expected. Emphasis is on jazz style and improvisation. Membership is restricted to specific instruments needed for this genre of music. The Jazz Band A meets four days a week from 6:30 AM until 7:30 AM. Excessive tardiness and unexcused absences will result in removal from the class. Jazz Band A members must purchase an ASB card!
Zero Hour Jazz Band B – Performing Jazz Ensembles available to everyone whom would like to experience jazz first hand. A few public performances are to be expected. Jazz Band B meets four days a week from 6:30 AM until 7:30 AM. Excessive tardiness and unexcused absences will result in removal from the class. Jazz Band B members must purchase an ASB card!
Percussion Techniques A – This class is for the most advanced and interested percussion students. Extra rehearsals, individual practice, numerous performances, private lessons, and various trips are required. Membership is by audition only and balanced instrumentation is a factor in membership selection. Open to percussion players 9th through 12th grade. The focus in this class will be on learning proper techniques on all percussion instruments. We will start the year developing a drum line and then move into percussion ensembles and rudiments. Percussion Techniques A members must purchase an ASB card!
Percussion Techniques B – Open to percussion players 9th through 12th grade. A few public performances are to be expected. The focus in this class will be on learning proper techniques on all percussion instruments. We will start the year developing a drum line and then move into percussion ensembles and rudiments. Percussion Techniques B members must purchase an ASB card!
Pep Band – A non-credit performing group active during football and basketball seasons made up of all students from Percussion Techniques, Concert Band, Symphonic Band, and Cadet Band. All students are required to attend the 4 or 5 football games. For Basketball, students will be split into two bands, Blue and Gold, each performing at 5 games. When your band is scheduled to perform at a game you must be present or have found a replacement from the other band. Pep Band members will need to purchase a marching flip folder and a lyre.
